Kid’s Backpacks: Issues and Concern

Today kids backpacks function not only as a tool to carry things; it shows kid's unique character and individuality. Often than not, school backpacks signify status symbol, carrying the fashionable and stylish backpacks certainly a must for the few kids.


The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) study of American students, however, says 6 out of 10 students (ages nine to 20) suffered chronic back pain relating to heavy school bags.

What could parents do? It is advisable to take a child's back pain seriously. Below are lists of safety reminders before purchasing your kid's next school backpacks.

1. Think about the use of rolling school kids backpack for your child. Wheeled school bags are fabulous option for bringing down the load. If your child, however, uses a plain school kids backpack, reduce the load to about 10 percent of the child's body weight.


2. Examine the quality. In a challenging economy, durability and level of quality are even more important. Selecting a respected brand that will stand behind their product is an excellent starting point. Whenever you look to buy school bags, take no less than a minute from your day to really look at the quality, dimension, distribution, and straps of the item.


3. Purchase kids school backpacks that suit your child. In case you have a smaller child, don't pair him or her with the huge kids backpacks. Make sure you and your child look for a kids backpack that is appropriate for your child's age and size. You should physically weigh the kids school backpack to make sure it is less than 15 percent of your child's weight.


4. Consider the straps. Do not underestimate the value of quality of straps! Kids backpacks with solid, well-supported straps are essential along with any chest straps, to spread the weight equally. Adjust the straps of your kid's kids backpack so it rests in the curve of the lower back of your child. The pack must not rest beyond four inches beneath your kid's waistline.
